How RNG (Random Number Generator) Works in Online Casinos

Understanding RNG: The Technology That Powers Online Casino Fairness

At the heart of every online casino game is a Random Number Generator — a sophisticated piece of software that produces the random outcomes that determine game results. Modern casino RNGs use complex mathematical algorithms to produce sequences of numbers that pass rigorous statistical tests for randomness and are practically impossible to predict. In practice, the RNG is constantly running in the background, generating thousands of number sequences per second.

How RNG Works in Different Casino Games

The visual spinning reels in online slots are a graphical presentation of the outcome that the RNG has already determined — the animation is essentially decorative, as the result is decided the moment you press spin. In card games like blackjack and baccarat, the RNG simulates the shuffle and distribution of a standard 52-card deck. In roulette, the RNG determines which numbered pocket the ball lands in, with each outcome having equal probability.

The Audit Process That Verifies Casino RNG Fairness

Casino RNGs are not simply implemented and trusted blindly — they are subjected to rigorous independent testing by specialized laboratories before deployment and on an ongoing basis.

• eCOGRA certification on a casino’s website indicates the RNG has been independently verified to produce statistically fair outcomes
• GLI (Gaming Laboratories International) performs rigorous RNG testing and certification recognized by regulators worldwide
• iTech Labs provides game fairness testing and RNG certification trusted by regulators and operators internationally
• The RTP percentages displayed by licensed casinos are not theoretical estimates but verified measurements from independent audits

For players choosing licensed casinos that display independent certification, RNG-based games can be trusted to produce genuinely random outcomes.
